Ebook Pirates Sink to New Low?

Mediaplaynow.com is a TOTAL SCAM, try the search box below, type anything in it such as your grandmother's name or even some random letters like fu2mpn, the search will come up as a downloadable file with hundreds of hits, all a trap to ensnare you into paying a fee and/or revealing your financial details

Please see the link below. Those wonderful bunch of people behind a website called magic-downloads.net are now offering a free download of Madeleine, Kate McCann's account of the disappearance of, and search for, her three-year-old daughter who went missing in the Algarve five years ago. Proceeds of (legitimate) sales of the book are in part intended for the Find Madeleine Fund, a charity with the stated aim of leaving "no stone unturned" until the mystery of Madeleine's disappearance is solved. However, our altruistic friends at magic-downloads.net appear to be offering a free download of the book, and all you have to do to join the site is pay them an upfront fee of $75! Are the owners of magic-downloads.net are diverting charitable funds to line their own pockets, when all the while a child is still missing? If so, just how low can people crawl?

  1. At the end of the day, either they come clean or they're felons. It's that simple. I'm in no mood to forgive anybody who swindle another fellow human being at this point of time since this post really reminds me of something equally bad in my backyard now. >:(

  2. They also have a $7 promotional membership :-(

The Madeleine Fund is a ltd company with closed accounts and it's all owned and run by the McCanns. The Madeleine Fund isn't a charity, despite company representatives not always correcting mentions of the word 'charity' in conjunction with the fund.

I know it's cold comfort but in view of the status of the Fund (as above), I doubt Madeleine's search will suffer because of this sick violation. The Met Police are being paid £6,000 per day in their investigation and the Fund is a multi-million pound company.

Greedy people never win, merely leave a sour taste :-)

    1. A charity doesn't have to be formally registered to be a charity. To be fair I think Kate & Gerry wanted to register the fund but were unable to do so due to a legal technicality.

"Why is Madeleine's Fund not registered as a charity?

Because Madeleine's Fund is currently focussed on searching for one child only, Madeleine McCann it cannot register as a charity. However in the future, if the objects of the fund are fulfilled and subsequently changed to concentrate on multiple similar cases, it may then be possible to acquire charitable status.

If Madeleine's Fund isn't a charity who is regulating it?

The directors regulate Madeleine's Fund and they aspire to follow best practice policies and processes used by charities. The directors have reviewed its operation against “Good Governance: A Code for the Voluntary and Community Sector”. This sets out best practice requirements for charities."

  3. At least it is a paid membership site. If the McCanns object, they could report the site to PayPal, which might result in the pirates' funds being frozen.

Too few content owners are aware that they can and should go for the financial jugular.

    1. Going for the financial jugular, I like the sound of that. If they are responsible companies then Paypal and the credit card people ought to withdraw facilities at the first hint of copyright theft.

  5. The McCanns fund was used to pay for their own mortgages back in 2007, in the past 5 years they've spent far more money (public donations) in libel lawyers, banning books and censorship and in PR companies to protect their "image" rather than on any searches. In fact, they never searched for Madeleine on the night that girl went missing - by the way, there's no evidence of an abduction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YWCVSjIJk8

All the investigation, a joint investigation by the British and Portuguese police, points to the death and subsequent concealment of the cadaver by the parents. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3AmjQgS1KI Kate and Gerry and other family members are directors of the company, the company was started in May 15, 2007 - just 12 days after the three year-old disappeared.
